Mediterranean Style Garden
A Mediterranean style garden nestled into a hillside in Orange NSW.“Designing a house and garden in a region where you don’t know anyone is a challenge, so finding the Caledonian Landscapes website was a lucky day! The design of our garden was just as important as our new home. Sarah was eager to find out exactly what kind of garden we wanted. The Design Brief in short; ‘Mediterranean style terraces filled with hardy plants, both exotic and native, with plenty of year round colour’ . The final product speaks volumes. Sarah is a talented landscape architect, efficient and a delightful person to boot”

in brief
A garden designed for an inner city couple looking for a country retreat reminiscent of their Mediterranean family roots. They found their dream block, just North of Orange NSW on a weekend escape. The property was steep and elevated with expansive views out over farmlands to the South East. The chosen house site was mid-slope and meant that major slope retention was in order. The proposed terraces constructed above the house would eventually become layers of colourful plant species reminiscent of the Italian coast. Italian Cypress frame lines of access, prostrate Rosemary & Convolvulus weep over the terraces softening their hard edges, while hardy natives were interspersed to attract wildlife. The result was a plant palette that needed little irrigation and one that provided colour year round.
